Head of Breeding Division, Rubber Research Institute of Viet Nam, Viet Nam
Mr. Le Mau Tuy presently serves as the Head of the Breeding Division at the Rubber Research Institute of Vietnam (RRIV). He has over 30 years of illustrious career at the Rubber Research Institute of Vietnam; started his career as a junior research scientist in 1987 at the age of 25. Mr. Le subsequently rose through the ranks as Senior Research Scientist in 1999 and was appointed as Head of Plant Breeding Division in 2001, a position which he holds until presently for 16 years. Mr. Le got a Bachelor Degree in Rubber Cultivation from Nong Lam University, Hochiminh city and subsequently obtained a Masters of Agricultural Science in Plant Breeding from University Putra Malaysia. During his career along with the RRIV, Mr. Le has contributed immensely to the natural rubber industry by improving the productivity of the rubber in Vietnam by developing and introducing high yielding rubber clones both for Plantation and Smallholder sectors. A major breeding innovation breakthrough came about when he was project manager of the research project from Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (2011-2015) subjected to breeding and selection suitable clones for rubber growing regions in North Central Coast and North Western of Vietnam, a non-traditional planting areas. The result from the research and development was remarkable when he introduced new rubber clones that are not just high yielding but are tolerable to cold, drought conditions. Mr. Le has since won numerous awards and accolades for his innovation, such as, VIFOTECT Award, Ho Chi Minh City People’s Recognition and the Prime Minister Recognition. Remarkably, he got GRC-WICHAM AWARD 2015 winner for Technology Innovation Segment. He has published 4 research articles to his credit including reviewed research papers published in cited journals.
